That’s it, you officially can’t buy iPhones directly from the Hong Kong Apple store anymore, starting 22nd January 2012. How insane is that? It’s like Wellcome stopping to sell frozen Dumplings or Bananas.
But Apple had to introduce this drastic measurement after all the craze and madness we’ve seen going down here after last years iPhone 4S release in Hong Kong. There were mile long queues (seriously “mile” long), daily police calls and all kind of weird figures walking around Hong Kong Station trying to buy bulks of iPhone 4S from anyone walking out the store. The result was a close to impossible situation for anyone “normal” to actually go to the Apple Store in Hong Kong and buy an Iphone off the shelves.
Overview: How the HK Apple – Online Reservation Works
Apple has introduced a new Online Reservation / Lottery system which is the only option to buy an iPhone off Apple directly (of course you can still go to resellers and street shops, but you will pay an hefty uprice). Here is how it works:
1. Go to Hong Kong Apple’s Official Reservation Page (only available between 9AM and 12AM Local Time)

2. Choose the model / color / quantity of which iPhone you want (2 piece max)

3.IMPORTANT: Make sure you enter your correct details such as Name, Phone, Email and HK ID Number. (Yes that’s right, non residents and tourists cannot buy iPhones in Hong Kong any more)

4. Wait and Pray! Apple will send out an email on the same day before 9PM to everyone who successfully was selected by their “lottery”. The email will contain the exact time of when you should head over to the IFC Apple Store and pick up your iPhone.
