I guess everyone of us has forgotten his Octopus card before, having to wait in the embarrassing line of Tourists to either pick up a new one (which afterwards will catch dust at your home and never be used again, besides for friends who visit Hong Kong), or you line up at the equally slow line at the single ticket counter. Now the one thing you barely forget is your phone, and that’s why you should follow below instructions to turn your phone into a Octopus enabled device and never forget your card again.
The (official) Octopus Phone Sticker
- It’s a sticker that you glue on the back of your phone, which somehow incoorperates the functionality of your normal Octopus card
- It’s only for the iPhone 4 and 4S
- It costs HK$238 (!!) and comes without any stored value (holy)
- You can order it here
Alternatives (My favorite!)
- Buy a Mini Octopus for 78HK$ (can be bought online here) and glue the tiny thing with some super glue to your iPhone case of with some double sided tape directly to your phone, done, you just saved 150HK$.
Last but not least, dont ask me if this works good, if the sticker is leaving ugly marks on your phone or if the whole thing comes off after a rainy day, I wont buy another Octopus card to add to my collection of 5 pieces at home anytime. But if anyone has bought this or tried it, please share your experience with us in the comments below!
