The new iPad – The most important Technical Details! (Update)

We heard it all before, so it wasn’t really surprising anymore what Apple showed off and introduced as the “new iPad” on Wednesday night. New Hardware, means new Chip, new Camera, new Display, but no new real “now-i-really-have-to-get-one” feature that would have blewn us away. I guess Apple has no need right now, they still own every other tablet and the “new iPad” is the best thing out there by far. So here are the most important technical updates that you should know about:

Retina Display

The first thing you should know is, that, yes, it is a so called “Retina Display” and the first one ever build into an iPad, however, it is far from having the same Pixel density as the iPhone has (new iPad: 264 PPI – against iPhone’s 330PPI). This put aside it is probably a wonderful thing to look at, literally. As we haven’t gotten our hands on it yet we still have to wait for the first hands-on reviews, but expect nothing but bright colors and cutting sharp lines. • Retina display
• 9.7-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit glossy widescreen Multi-Touch display with IPS technology
• 2048-by-1536-pixel resolution at 264 pixels per inch (ppi)
• Fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating
• Support for display of multiple languages and characters simultaneously

Inside Life (Chip / Ram)

The new iPads chip comes with said 4x times the power of the iPad 2 chip, with a boost specifically on the graphics end (quad core), required for the Retina Display. Battery Life is only slightly effected, with a runtime of 10 hours now.

Storage

Same old, same old, not much to say here, we got 16GB, 32GB and 64GB. Mention worth is that the iPad 2 is now only available as 16GB version, no more 32GB or 64GB iPad 2 models are available immediately.

Cameras and Video Recording

5MP iSight camera, that’s still 3MP less than the iPhones 8MP iSight camera. However its still an improvement agains the iPad 2 build in camera. As we are now having the iSight model, Video recordings of 1080p HD is possible as well. With iMovie available as iPad app you might even bet able to cut some nice movies directly on your iPad now.

Network
